In March 2021, I helped @Xbox win the first-ever Twitter Brand Bracket - beating out 15 other huge accounts. AdWeek wrote us up.
I didn’t have a traditional start in the ad world (even though I’ve watched Mad Men like 20 times). Instead of going to school for this, I decided to go a different direction: working at jobs I disliked until I couldn’t take it anymore.
While I was at those jobs, I spent a lot of time working on my personal social media. By working, I mean that I was cracking jokes and becoming part-man, part-timeline.
When the opportunity with Xbox opened up, I was able to leverage my personal Twitter account (I had reached ~90k followers at that point) into a job. And yes, I still refuse to call it “X”.
Considering the large amount of people who get fired because of their Twitter accounts, I was lucky.
